We’re goin’ to war! – A Gangster Squad Review

I’m behind on my other movie reviews, so I’m just going to really sum up the good and bad about Gangster Squad.

Gangster Squad is based on the true story of a group of cops who are given carte blanche on dealing with a mobster. This mobster is named Mickey Cohen and he’s slowly taking over Los Angeles. This movie is based on a true story.

+ Good performances from most of the cast
+ Stylish
+ Looks great
+ Emma Stone also looks great…
+ … in that red dress
+ Seriously, she does

– Predictable plot
– Unoriginal characters
– Some less than inspiring performances from a couple of the main characters
– Unnecessarily violent in places
– No where near as good as The Untouchables

Movie rating: A stylish and fun movie, Gangster Squad unfortunately fails to hit a lot of the emotional cues necessary to lift it to greatness. Worth watching once, if only for Emma Stone (and that red dress).
