To compliment my earlier post about the major item changes to Season 3, and the with the recent release of a fairly hefty balance patch, I have decided to create a new list of items that have undergone changes since season 3 started. This will only include items that have had major changes, and here they are:

Banner of Command

Before:

  • 2400 gold
  • 50 AP
  • 30 Armor

Now:

  • 2360 gold
  • 40 AP
  • 30 Armor
  • 10% cdr

This item was originally designed for pure supports, but Riot felt that it might be better as a general support item with some CDR.

Blade of the Ruined King

Before:

  • 2900 gold
  • 40 AD
  • 10% life steal
  • Deals 4% of target’s current hp as physical damage (max 120 to minions)
  • Deals 150 physical damage plus 50% of your attack damage to an enemy champion, healing you for the same amount (there was some problem with the way this was calculated, and it was stealing too much HP), and stealing 30% of their movement speed for 2 seconds

Now (but before hotfix):

  • 2850 gold
  • 30 AD
  • 40% AS
  • 15% lifesteal
  • Deals 5% of current hp as physical damage (max 90 to minions)
  • Deals 15% of target’s maximum health as physical damage, heals for the same amount, and steals 30% of the target’s movespeed for 4 seconds

Now (after the recent hotfix):

  • 3200 gold
  • 25 AD
  • 40% AS
  • 15% lifesteal
  • Deals 5% of current hp as physical damage (max 90 to minions)
  • Deals 15% of target’s maximum health as physical damage, heals for the same amount, and steals 30% of the target’s movespeed for 4 seconds

This item was meant to be the go to item for AD champs who want to shred health. It clearly took a bit of work, but I think it’s in a good space now.

Crystaline Flask

Before:

  • 225 gold
  • Restores 100 hold and 40 mana over 10 seconds
  • Has 3 charges that refill every time you return to the shop

Now:

  • 345 gold
  • Restores 120 health and 60 mana over 12 seconds
  • Has 3 charges that refill every time you return to the shop

Flask was so OP when it came out. Everyone was buying it. Clearly RIOT noticed this and gave it a pretty severe nerf.

Iceborn Gauntlet

Before:

  • Your next attack deals 125% of your attack damage as an AOE ice field around your target – enemies are slowed by 35% for 3 seconds – 2 second cooldown

Now:

  • 3250 gold
  • 40 AP
  • 500 Mana
  • 600 Armor
  • 10% CDR
  • Your next attack deals 125% of your attack damage as an AOE ice field around your target – enemies are slowed by 30% for 2 seconds – 2 second cooldown

This item was fine on most champs. Stick it on Ezreal and it became abusive. Nerf!

Liandry’s Torment

Before:

  • 2900 gold
  • 70 AP
  • 200 HP
  • 15 Magic penetration
  • Deals spell damage that burns enemies for 5% of their current HP as magic damage over 3 seconds. If their movement is impaired this effect is doubled. This effect is halved for multi-target or periodic effects (max 300 vs monsters)

Now:

  • 2900 gold
  • 50 AP
  • 300 HP
  • Deals spell damage that burns enemies for 6% of their current HP as magic damage over 3 seconds. If their movement is impaired this effect is doubled (max 300 vs monsters)

Slight nerf to the overall AP, in exchange for getting extra HP melting power. Good trade.

  • 15 mana regen per 5

Originally this was supposed to be for tanky supports, but RIOT saw that these guys were just building HP and armour so they could tank tower shots anyway, so they shifted it to more of a support item.

  • Allows you to place 3 wards. Has 5 charges

Ok, technically most of the nerf to this item came to it’s early component, Sightstone, but I missed this screenshot, and I’m feeling lazy! Sightstone was too cheap and supports were getting it pretty fast, shutting down jungler ganks from pretty damn early.

Spirit of the Elder Lizard

Before:

  • 2400 gold
  • 50 attack damage
  • 14 hp regen per 5 seconds
  • 7 mana regen per 5 seconds
  • 25% bonus damage to monsters
  • Basic attacks and spells deal 15-66 true damage (based on level) over 3 seconds

Now:

  • 2300 gold
  • 50 attack damage
  • 10% CDR
  • 14 hp regen per 5 seconds
  • 7 mana regen per 5 seconds
  • 25% bonus damage to monsters
  • Basic attacks and spells deal 14-50 true damage (based on level) over 3 seconds

The original item was simply too expensive for what it offered, and so Elder Lizard got a fairly decent buff. Recently the true damage was nerfed slightly (I believed the way it worked with Hecarims healing spell had something to do with this).

  • 25 bonus damage to monsters
  • 20% cdr on Smite

No one used this (and I think very few people do even now) so it got some pretty major buffs.

The Black Cleaver

Before:

  • 3000 gold

  • 50 AD
  • 10% cdr
  • 15 armor penetration
  • When dealing physical damage to an enemy champion, their armor is reduced by 7.5% for 4 seconds (stacks 4 times for 25% armor reduction)

Now:

  • 3000 gold
  • 200 HP
  • 50 AD
  • 10% CDR
  • 10 armor penetration
  • When dealing physical damage to an enemy champion, their armor is reduced by 5% for 4 seconds (stacks 5 times for 25% armor reduction)

Welcome to the League of Black Cleaver! When this item first came out it turned pretty much all the AD assassins into godly beasts who could flatten enemies whenever they had their spells ready. This item went through various nerfs until it finally settled where it is now.

  • Regens 1.5% of your total HP every 5 seconds

Now:

  • 2830 gold
  • 1000 HP
  • Regens 1% of your total HP every 5 seconds

This became the go to item for EVERYONE. It got nerfed pretty hard but it’s still very useful.
