Abridged – past participle, past tense of a·bridge (Verb)
Shorten (a book, movie, speech, or other text) without losing the sense
When I first heard about DBZ Abridged I was confused. I wondered why would anyone want to watch what essentially would be summarised DBZ episodes?
Yes, DBZ was badly paced and horribly drawn out in places, but if you wanted to get to the good stuff you could just skip through an episode to get to the fight scenes.
Well, it turns out that I was really off the mark. DBZ Abridged does cut out a lot of the useless posturing and filler from DBZ, but that’s not what makes it special. The thing that makes it so popular is its humor. Yes, it’s actually a redubbing (or fandub) of the show that’s as funny as hell! The writing is done by a group of fans that call themselves Team Four Star. The show also features some fantastic voice acting that is almost indistinguishable from the original professional voice actors from the show.
