Geek Ink Thinks: My Top 10 Disney Songs

Disney Logo

Most of my friends and family know that I’m a pretty big fan of musicals, especially some of the Disney classics. I’ve had the Frozen soundtrack on repeat for the last few days so I decided to do a top 10 of my favourite Disney songs.

In order to give some of the other Disney movies a chance, I decided to limit the list to one song per movie. Unfortunately this does mean that I’ve left out some great musical numbers, but if I didn’t there would only be three or four movies in this entire list. But anyway, on with the show!

10 – The Muppets – Life’s a happy song

I loved The Muppets when I was a kid and their comeback movie was some of their best work. I can’t wait for Muppets: Most Wanted!

9 – The Jungle Book – I wanna be like you

The Jungle Book had some awesome numbers, but this jazzy piece is just amazing! There’s also this amazing cover by Robbie Williams that I never knew existed.

8 – Enchanted – That’s how you know

Enchanted turned the typical Disney romance story on it’s head. This song may seem fairly cliched, but it’s song by Amy Adams who is just awesome and can do no wrong.

7 – The Little Mermaid – Under the sea

Sebastian the crab dishes out some life philosophy with an awesome beat!

6 – Beauty and the Beast – Something there

I chose this song over Beauty and the Beast since this is the defining point in Belle and Beast’s relationship.

5 – Pocohontas – Colours of the wind

I am not the biggest fan of the Pocohontas movie, but I will give credit where credit’s due. This song is great.

4 – The Princess and the Frog – Friends on the other side

The Princess and the Frog is probably the last traditionally animated film we’ll ever see from Disney, and it’s horribly underrated. It wasn’t their best work but it had some awesome tracks and the ending will make almost everybody cry.

3 – The Lion King – I just can’t wait to be King

It’s the Lion King. It’s probably the number one movie ever for making children cry, but thankfully it has this song to make up for it.

2 – Frozen – Let it go

Frozen was really good, but I don’t know if I would put the movie ahead of Tangled. However, I will say this much: Frozen’s soundtrack is way, way better than Tangled’s.

1 – Aladdin – A whole new world

There was a cute redheaded girl who I liked back in my varsity days. She used to drive an old beetle so she didn’t have a radio to keep us entertained. She was a drama student so I took a shot in the dark and asked her if she knew any Disney songs. We sang this song together, and as much as I would love to say the rest is history, things didn’t really go anywhere because I was way too shy. Still, it’s a very fond memory for me and is one of things I look for when it comes to dating (I won’t hold it against you if you don’t know any Disney songs, but if you do, that’s major bonus points).
